We are martyrs. The word “martyr” means “witness.” For Christians, we are witnesses to the truth. It can’t be important that the world wants us to keep silent. We are faithful to the truth, even unto death. The truth is too important. We will not play with the truth! Thus, for us Christians, to witness to the truth means to be martyrs to the death, not accepting any other commitment. Many martyrs lost their lives for not accepting any other story.
You may remember the Egyptian Christians who were beheaded on the beach in Egypt? ISIS warriors killed the Christians one by one in a well-known video. These martyrs did not get up in the morning thinking they were going to be killed as Christian martyrs that day. The video shows those Christians praying together the “Our Father” while their brothers were losing their heads.
If we are to become martyrs, witnesses to the truth of Christ, the truth that saves us, we must know well the story of Christ and his ministry, his persecution, his crucifixion and, of course, his resurrection. That is the reason why we repeat every year Easter.
Pay attention! Christians, pay attention! Don’t miss a single celebration this Holy Week, because this is how we renew our role as disciples to the Truth. At Easter we renew faith and discipline. That is not any drama or entertainment. This week is our salvation and the salvation of the world. But the world is under the power of Satan. The world needs witnesses to the truth. Pay attention to be good disciples and martyrs to the Truth. Jesus is the Messiah sent by God. Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus was crucified for our sins and our salvation. We will renew our faith this week. Jesus Christ is God.
